Ständige Senatskommission zur Prüfung gesundheitsschädlicher Arbeitsstoffe
[Permanent Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area]

The Permanent Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area (MAK Commission) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) proposes and publishes recommendations for health-based limit values for hazardous substances at the workplace. The MAK Collection is comprised of the List of MAK and BAT Values, published annually in three language editions, and the quarterly published journal The MAK Collection for Occupational Health and Safety. The List of MAK and BAT Values contains the current recommendations for limit values, classifications and other notations. Compliance with these recommendations offers reliable protection against substance-related adverse health effects at the workplace. The MAK Collection for Occupational Health and Safety presents the comprehensive documentations for the MAK values and classifications and the assessment values in biological material as well as the corresponding analytical methods. The Commission, with the support of additional experts (Guests of the Commission) and the Scientific Secretariat, gathers all the available health and workplace-related information on a substance, describes its mechanism of action, and compiles the toxicological evaluations and the analytical methods. Furthermore, the Commission publishes articles on conceptual topics, which in turn feed into current substance evaluations.

All publications are available for the scientific community and the interested public via Open Access.

At present, the MAK Collection contains more than 4.000 publications for over 1.000 hazardous substances found at the workplace. With each volume of The MAK Collection for Occupational Health and Safety, every year around 60 articles for the documentation of the MAK and BAT value evaluations and about 25 articles about the recommended analytical methods are added.
