    MAK-Collection

Ständige Senatskommission zur Prüfung gesundheitsschädlicher Arbeitsstoffe
[Permanent Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area]

The Permanent Senate Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area (MAK Commission) evaluates and publishes recommendations for health-based limit values at the workplace. The MAK-Collection contains the comprehensive documentations and corresponding methods of determination for the MAK values, classifications and notations. Furthermore, assessment values in biological material and biomonitoring methods are reported. Within the documentations and method descriptions, the Commission, with the support of additional experts (Guests of the Commission) and the Scientific Secretariat, summarizes all the available toxicological information on a substance, its mechanisms of action and evaluations relevant to the workplace exposure. These form the basis for suggestions for health-based limit values, classifications and other notations. In addition, for certain substances, analytical methods are developed and continually updated, to reliably monitor the limit values. All publications are available for the scientific community and the interested public via Open Access. At present, the MAK-Collection contains more than 1.000 evaluations and methods for hazardous substances found at the workplace. Every year around 80 new evaluations and about 25 new methods are added. The annual List of MAK and BAT Values of the DFG contains the current recommendations for limit values, classifications and other notations. Compliance with these recommendations offers reliable protection against substance-related adverse health effects at the workplace.
