Editorial
It is great that after three corona-related online conferences, the 68th GMDS Annual Conference under the motto “Science. Close to the people” can again take place in presence on the Bildungscampus in Heilbronn. Despite the distinctive advances in software systems for videoconferencing and online collaboration in recent years, from time to time face-to-face contact between researchers is very helpful in supporting exchange and scientific discourse. In addition, face-to-face meetings are more visible to the people for whom we as GMDS members conduct research.
The call for papers for the 68th GMDS Annual Conference was met with great interest and fortunately, more than 200 talks and posters from all four GMDS divisions (Medical Informatics, Medical Biometry, Epidemiology, and Medical Bioinformatics and Systems Biology) could be included in a very diverse program after review. A heartfelt thank you to the members of the Scientific Program Committee (SPC), the function heads in GMDS, all reviewers, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), and the conference presidents. Without the time-intensive commitment of these many people, such a conference would not be feasible!
From the papers submitted, two could be selected for publication in MIBE:
- Kröner et al. [1] examine the use of health kiosks and the reasons for their use or non-use.
- Timmer et al. [2] present a data analysis project as an implementation example for science education in medical school.
As a GMDS member, please feel free to use the opportunity to publish results of your research activities in MIBE in German and/or English beyond the GMDS annual meetings. MIBE, our GMDS publication organ, is free of charge for authors and readers.
